Planning, Zoning & Conservation Director – Oneida County, WI
Oneida County is seeking a collaborative and experienced professional to lead its Planning, Zoning, and Land & Water Conservation programs. This leadership role oversees land use regulation, environmental conservation efforts, and departmental operations while serving as a key advisor to county committees and officials.
Compensation & Schedule

Salary: $90,424 – $124,012 (depending on qualifications)

Full-time, salaried (40+ hours/week; some evenings/weekends required)

Key Responsibilities
-
Lead and manage Planning & Zoning and Land & Water Conservation programs
-
Administer and enforce zoning, shoreland, floodplain, land division, sanitary (POWTS), and mining ordinances
-
Review development proposals, permits, and compliance inspections

Coordinate with municipalities and state/federal agencies
-
Support long-range planning, including Comprehensive Plan updates

Oversee departmental staff, budget, reporting, and public communication

Serve as technical advisor to County Board, committees, and Board of Adjustment
Minimum Qualifications
-
Bachelor’s degree in Planning, Natural Resources, Geography, Public Administration, or related field

5+ years of professional experience in planning, zoning, or land use
-
3+ years of supervisory or leadership experience
-
Strong knowledge of relevant regulations and public-sector processes

Ability to communicate technical information to officials and the public

Valid Wisconsin driver’s license required

POWTS certification (within 6 months) and WI Soil Tester certification (within 1 year) required
