Lucy Thompson
Lucy Thompson was a Principal City Planner in the Saint Paul Department of Planning and Economic Development (PED) until her retirement in 2019. Over the 31 years she worked at PED, Lucy worked on neighborhood planning, heritage preservation, riverfront redevelopment, infill mixed-use development, zoning for traditional neighborhood design, transit-oriented development and urban design. For 25 years, she was the lead planner and urban designer for downtown Saint Paul and the central Mississippi riverfront. Lucy was a founding member of the Saint Paul on the Mississippi Design Center, a public-private, multi-disciplinary collaboration dedicated to stimulating economic vitality by championing innovative, sustainable urban design. She is a Charter Member of the Congress for the New Urbanism. In her retirement, Lucy serves as the Chair of the Minneapolis Arts Commission, which advises the Mayor and City Council on all things arts and culture in Minneapolis.
