Leah Bulbula
My name is Leah Bulbula . I am a first-year graduate student currently pursuing an MS in Urban and Regional Planning and MS in Geography. I graduated with my bachelors degree in May 2024 studying GIS and Computer Cartography, Geography, and Landscape and Urban Studies with certificates in Environmental Studies, Global Health, and Integrative Design of Built and Natural Environments. During undergrad I was able to have a few different research positions. I first served as an undergraduate assistant for a graduate student as her climate plan co-evaluator. I then worked with GIS Arctic wetland mapping using high res commercial satellite imagery. I then worked in a soil lab where we analyzed hundreds of soils from remnant-raised fields on the Menominee Reservation. In my research, I have learned how to prepare soil samples to perform Loss-on-Ignition, Laser Diffraction Analysis, and measurement of soil pH to conduct statistical analysis on different agricultural practices’ impacts on soil and inform the Menominee community of best agricultural practices to support food sovereignty. Now as a graduate student I work for the Wisconsin Sea Grant working with GIS story maps on Strengthening Coastal Community Resilience in the Great Lakes Region and developing topics for the Wisconsin Coastal Atlas. My research interests involve understanding the relationship between GIS, transportation and human health. In my free time I enjoy watching tv, listening to music, crocheting, and enjoying the view of the lake.
