Duha Alhamidi
Duha Alhamidi, originally from Haifa, Palestine, born and raised in Baghdad, Iraq. I am currently a graduate student in Urban and Regional Planning. In 2010, I earned my bachelor’s degree in architectural science from the University of Technology in Baghdad. My final year of study focused on urban design, particularly in the old center of Baghdad, where the city’s rich history and intricate urban fabric sparked my deep interest in planning. After graduation, I worked as an architect in Baghdad , where I gained valuable experience in designing and implementing various projects. In 2014, I moved to Indonesia and volunteered with the International Organization for Migration (IOM), working closely with refugees for 7 years. As a refugee myself, this experience solidified my commitment to inclusive, human-centered planning, especially for vulnerable communities. Since moving to the U.S. in 2021, I have worked in various roles, and at the beginning of this year, I started working with Dane County as a project assistant on a historic marker planning project. This work allows me to delve into the intersection of history, place, and community identity, fueling my passion for preserving cultural heritage while promoting sustainable growth. Looking ahead, I aspire to contribute to planning efforts that balance historical preservation, social equity, and urban development.
