Madison Yurubi is a first-year graduate student from Miami, Florida, pursuing her Master’s
Degree in Urban and Regional Planning. As a recent graduate of Florida State University (FSU),
with majors in geography and creative writing, she became particularly interested in the social
issues addressed in urban planning and the consideration of open space. She attributes this
interest to her academic and professional experiences, as well as her work with FSU Campus
Last fall Madison assisted Lambert Advisory LLC in leading focus groups for a community
development project she’d previously worked on during her internship with the firm in 2014.
The project, funded by the U.S. EDA, was to develop a regional economic development strategy
for a diverse region with urban, suburban, and rural areas known as South Dade. Since finishing
this work Madison has been commissioned for writing projects and continues to serve as an
advocate for her community.
Building on her experience and undergraduate education, while at Wisconsin, Madison hopes to
learn the policy involved in making enjoyable and safe spaces for various types of users. She
currently serves as the Project Assistant for the Department of Planning and Landscape
Architecture. Madison prides herself on creating meaningful connections with people, and her
interests include painting, offshore fishing, traveling, and writing.
