Ashley Monterusso (she/her) is a first-year graduate student in the Urban and Regional Planning program at the University of Wisconsin. She grew up in West Michigan before earning her Bachelor’s degree in Chicago at DePaul University. Since then she has had a fulfilling career in hospitality that has allowed her opportunities to travel nationally and internationally. Her interests in travel, community, design, and sustainability led her to the field of Urban and Regional Planning.
Her interests are wide and varying. They include but are not limited to: the relationship between planning and public utilities, community energy, food systems, how design and technology can improve public health outcomes and examining land use systems and energy systems to find holistic solutions to the transition to renewables.
Outside of planning, Ashley enjoys kayaking, film, coffee, hiking, and she’ll never turn down an opportunity to thrift for dusty glassware.
