Kayla is a first year student in the Urban and Regional planning masters program, with a desire to add the Water Resources Management masters program in the spring. She is from Milwaukee, Wisconsin and received her undergraduate degree from the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse in Biology, with minors in Spanish and Environmental Studies. After graduating in 2012 she spent some time traveling and living in different states around the country as well as abroad (Galway, Ireland). During her travels she gained an interest in GIS while working for the Department of Fish and Game in Boise, Idaho. She went on to move to Colorado and obtain a graduate certificate in GIS.

Kayla has many recreational pursuits that have shaped her study interests today. She loves hiking, biking, playing with her dog, kayaking/canoeing, and backpacking. When she is not working or studying, you will probably find her enjoying the outdoors, be it rain, shine, or snow. This love of the outdoors is where her interests in Urban and Regional Planning come from. The areas she is interested in studying include: conservation/restoration, urban sustainability, water resources and management, and GIS.
