Madison, WI – Organics Waste Management Specialist

The Department of Natural Resources is hiring an Organics Waste Management Specialist to work in the Waste Management Specialist- Senior classification within the Division of Environmental Management. This position will be stationed at the Madison, WI office. There is an opportunity to telework for up to 60% of the workweek dependent on work needs.

This project position is funded by a Federal Solid Waste Infrastructure for Recycling Grant and is expected to end on October 31, 2027. The position will help develop and implement plans to prevent the creation of food waste and to build capacity for post-consumer food and organics collection and management. Efforts will be focused on helping Wisconsin meet the National Food Loss and Waste Reduction Goal and the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources(DNR)’s goal to reduce per-capita food waste sent to Wisconsin landfills by half (from 2020 levels) by 2030. This goal is part of the state’s “Blueprint for DNR Climate Action 2021-2025.”
