Join the International Affairs team to support an exciting global initiative with a track record of impacting more equitable and age-friendly communities. The Equity by Design initiative influences the influencers—those people whose work determines how our cities and towns look and function. If you are a graduate student in a built environment discipline (city planning, urban design, architecture, development, etc.) with a passion for social justice, we want you! As a key researcher for the project, your name will appear as a co-author on published case studies, with the possibility of drafting sections and/or editing—extra points for candidates with creative ideas and social media prowess. AARP is committed to your growth and cultivating your continued learning and development. This paid remote internship has an anticipated start date of May/June 2023 and will extend through the end of the year.
Responsibilities
- Help identify critical needs and gaps where built environment professionals are not sufficiently/appropriately addressing rapid population aging and disparities among population groups
- Work closely with a supervisor to take the lead in finding replicable global innovations that fill those gaps and thought leaders advancing these discussions, conduct outreach and some interviews, and draft bullets/summaries and case study outlines
- Develop social media kits, post on social media, and proactively engage LinkedIn group members
- Engage collaborating organizations around new collateral and events
- Depending on bandwidth, potentially support other initiatives of the international team
