The Community Economic Development Specialist will be part of a talented team of researchers, specialists, and educators focused on research and educational programming development and delivery in community economic development. With over 50 years of working with Wisconsin communities, the Community Economic Development (CED) program engages stakeholders in building the capacity of our partners and performing research to identify best practices and discover new or emerging community economic development strategies.
The Community Economic Development Specialist will be expected to provide leadership in working with communities to help better understand development opportunities through a variety of market analysis techniques and applied research, intending to foster growth and development in neighborhood and community business districts. Specific expectations include:
– Identifying possible impactful research-based educational outreach and programming that strives to improve the economic well-being of community and neighborhood business districts such as downtowns.
– Supporting the maintenance of and continued development of a research-based educational program related to market analysis and business district improvement, including but not limited to market analysis techniques, downtown revitalization techniques, and public financing techniques (e.g., BIDs, NIDs, and TIFs).
– Exploring the role community economic development policies and strategies play to improve community quality of life and sustain economic activity and business profitability.
– Supporting original research that explores the agglomeration or cluster effects of business concentration and mix and how those effects impact the larger community.
