The Montgomery County Council’s Summer Fellows Program

The Montgomery County Council’s Summer Fellows Program provides students a ten-week paid ($8,000 stipend) local government experience working directly with elected officials and senior management. Fellows will also conduct an independent research report and present it to the Council. Weekly programming brings the students together for field trips throughout the County. Montgomery County, MD neighbors our nation’s capital– Washington, D.C. This will be our sixth consecutive year hosting the successful program. The 2022 cohort will have the unique experience of working in local government during a local election year too!

Graduate students in the following fields are invited to apply: public policy (all applicable specializations included), public administration, planning, public health, law, or related subjects.

Despite the COVID-19 health pandemic, we were able to maintain paid placements for our selected 2020 (virtual) and 2021 fellows (hybrid). We expect to do the same for summer 2022.

The deadline for the first stage of the application is December 12th, 2021. The first application is short and quick, focusing on collecting academic background information from the students.
