LIMITED TERM EMPLOYMENT: ORIENTATION TO RESTORATION ECOLOGY FEATURING SEED COLLECTION
Looking to gain field experience in habitat restoration and management? One 40 hour per week person or two 20 hour per week limited term employment positions at Goose Pond Sanctuary provide outstanding opportunities for individuals to learn the tools and techniques of natural areas management, learn plant identification and restoration ecology, and help restore and protect some of the most beautiful and productive habitat in south-central Wisconsin. Goose Pond Sanctuary is one of two major sanctuaries owned and operated by Madison Audubon Society. REQUIRED: Candidates need a strong work ethic, a willingness to cooperate directly with volunteers and the public, and an enthusiasm for habitat conservation and restoration. Sturdy work boots, gloves, and long pants are a necessity. Employees are responsible for their travel, housing, and other living expenses. DESIRED: Ideal candidates possess plant identification knowledge, a background in natural sciences, and strong attention to detail. A pesticide applicators license and chainsaw experience are also beneficial.
COMPENSATION
$12 per hour (Academic credit may be available through your educational institution)
SCHEDULE
The employment period runs from September 3, 2019 until November 13, 2019. If we hire two employees, they would work three to four days per week totaling 20 hours weekly. If we hire one person, they would work five days totaling 40 hours per week. Scheduling is flexible, but hours are expected to be completed between 8:00am-4:30pm Monday through Friday and 8:30am-12:00pm on Saturdays. JOB DUTIES
Native seed collection is the major activity for employees, but individuals will be expected to lead small groups of volunteers, control invasive species, participate in biological monitoring, etc. All tasks involve outdoor work in a variety of habitats, sometimes under uncomfortable weather conditions. Indoor work will focus on seed cleaning.
